The word "phenomenon" seems to be used more often in Chinese (現象／现象 xiànxiàng） than in English, but one thing that is deserving of that "phenomenon" moniker is "older generation pictures".
"Older generation pictures" is a direct, if not perfect, English translation, and it describes those generic looking pictures of fields or sunsets, with a few words like "good morning" or "have a wonderful day" written across the picture. These are the currency of the older generation, and whether it's on Line in Taiwan or WeChat in China, elders wake up each morning and fire these images off to everyone in their social circles - family, friends, even that random person they met on the street one time a decade ago!
